APRIL 2007
The Children's Museum in Oak Lawn held its 3rd annual “Imagination: Destination” Dinner Dance on the evening of March 30, 2007 at the Hilton Oak Lawn. This year, the Museum honoring three very special community leaders; Bob Smith, Joan Geary and Cathy Cepican.
“These three individuals have all played an important role in the history of the Children's Museum in Oak Lawn,” said museum director, Adam Woodworth. “Additionally, they continue to support us in many ways.”
Retired Police Chief Bob “Smitty” Smith
Just a few months ago, Bob Smith and his son Adam received a lot of publicity by donating a rare 1909 Lincoln penny to the museum. As Police Chief, Smith supported the museum by having a police education component at many museum events.
Joan Geary of the Hilton Oak Lawn
Joan Geary, general manager of the Oak Lawn Hilton, has graciously hosted past donor events. When the museum recently underwent a Museum Assessment, she had the Oak Lawn Hilton cover the overnight accommodations for the surveyor, who was not from the area. The Hilton has also supported the museum with great rates, by helping the museum keep costs low, by hosting our gala events.
Cathy Cepican of Trinity Lutheran Church & pres. of Museum’s Board
Cathy Cepican, president of the museum’s board of directors, has been instrumental in providing greatly needed leadership and direction for the museum. She is the type of person who leads in governance, but is also one of the first to jump in and roll up her sleeves in order to get work done. The museum has truly benefited from her leadership.
