Meet Lupita, one of our newest play coordinators! She has been with us for over two months and we could not be more excited.
Lupita assists our visitors with anything they need and also helps to keep the Museum floor clean. Additionally, Lupita works as a front desk greeter, where she welcomes guests into the Museum and performs other general cashier duties.
As a speech and language pathology student, Lupita loves her staff position at the Museum because it gives her an opportunity to observe how children play and learn.
“I [also] enjoy watching the interaction between children and their parents [and] caregivers,” Lupita explains. “I am fascinated by maternal [and] paternal communication behaviors that are associated with the learning aspect of each exhibit.”
Despite all of the learning opportunities her position provides her, Lupita says the most rewarding part of her job is interacting with the public.
“Everyone has a story to tell,” Lupita says. “Sometimes pausing for two minutes to listen to someone can mean a lot for both communication partners.”
Communication is also one of Lupita’s strengths - she’s bilingual and is also working to improve her sign language skills!
