Quality early learning can:
- Prevent the achievement gap
- Improve a child’s health, education and productivity outcomes
- Help increase your child’s income in adulthood
At the Museum, you can find endless brain-building activities! Wrap your mind around NanoScience and the particles you can’t see with the naked eye, or try experimenting with gravity in our Move It! exhibit. Even simple activities can exercise your child’s brain, like working with building blocks.
CMOL strives to be an exciting place for children to explore such early learning opportunities; however, learning takes place outside of our walls, too! Early learning programs are a great way for young children to continue growing their minds.
Finding the right early learning program for your child may seem like a daunting task – we know! When investigating programs, it is important to look beyond physical distance and budget. You must consider quality, too.
We have recently teamed up with ExceleRate Illinois, the state’s quality recognition and improvement system designed to make continuous quality improvement an everyday priority among early learning providers (licensed centers, licensed family homes, school based preschool and Head Start). It awards quality designations (Bronze, Silver or Gold) to programs that pursue continuous quality improvement and meet a set of program standards to help infants, toddlers and preschool age children develop intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally. It provides a framework for early learning professionals to identify opportunities for improvement, increase their skills and take steps to make positive changes.
“We know that hands-on play is critical to child development,” said Adam Woodworth, executive director of the Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn, “and partnering with ExceleRate Illinois gives us an opportunity as an organization to do more for the families we serve.
We share common goals and values in the areas of helping children learn and succeed in school and in life.”
If you are looking for an early learning program, it is easy with excelerateillinois.com. Enter your zip code and the circle of quality - Bronze, Silver or Gold - and you’ll find a list of providers in your area.
It is vital that you give your child the best opportunity for success in school and in life, and we are happy to call ExceleRate Illinois one of our partners!
