Ron began his journey with the Museum back when it first opened at the current location. Once he started helping out, Ron became one of the go-to guys for all things technical. He helps the Museum with computer networking, website development, video surveillance and everything in-between.
Ron’s career path has translated perfectly for the work he does for the Museum. He is the IT Director at BuschBach Insurance Agency in Oak Lawn. Over the last 20 years, he has held all sorts of positions within the organization, including sales and underwriting.
“IT usually means information technology,” Ron explains. “But in my case, it’s more like ‘it.’ Whatever ‘it’ is, that’s what I do.”
Although Ron’s volunteer position hasn’t always been easy, he enjoys the challenge. He says that the rapid growth, limited budget and ever-increasing demand for new technologies keeps him thinking and on his toes.
“Most visitors see the exhibits and work with the employees and other volunteers,” he says. “What they don’t see are the back-end systems that are required to run a successful non-profit organization. I am glad to be able to assist with my time and talents.”
Without his volunteered time and talent, the Museum would not be where it is today. Nonetheless, Ron is humbled by the experiences the Museum has provided him.
“The thousands of children that visit the museum to learn and play is proof that all of the hard work from everyone is paying off in a way that changes lives,” he says.
