This year, we held our annual Easter Egg Hunt, Fall Fun Fest and Princess Ball. Our Easter Egg Hunt for children with disabilities gave over 35 children with a variety of disabilities the opportunity to fully and comfortably participate in a special egg hunt. We even had one family travel from the Wisconsin Dells to participate.
Our Fall Fun Fest in September was also the biggest we’ve ever had – with right around 2,500 in attendance! We also recently held our Princess Ball, where more than 70 fathers and daughters danced the afternoon away, experienced a horse-drawn carriage ride, participated in fun science activities, and met Frozen’s Elsa and Anna.
Seeing the smiles on the children and the laughs that families share at our events and inside the Museum is why we do what we do. Education is obviously important, but the significance of play-based learning is often overlooked. It is what helps teach children to genuinely enjoy learning new things about our world, and we are so proud to bring that to the community.
Aside from the public events our Museum held this year, we were also able to open two new exhibits at the Museum – Nano: The Science of Small and What If? Bringing children new and exciting opportunities to learn is what we’re all about at the Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn, and our staff and volunteers are what make it possible on a daily basis.
In July, we held our Volunteer and Staff Recognition Dinner, at which we acknowledged three outstanding volunteers with our Soaring Spirit Award, amongst many other honors and awards.
2015 is likely to bring its trials and triumphs, but I am excited to explore new possibilities to help the Museum continue to flourish. We believe every child deserves an opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential in life, and we are proud to say we help children achieve this through fun, educational exhibits and programs.
On behalf of everyone at the Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continuing support of our mission in 2014. We look forward to spending 2015 with you and your families!
Best wishes,
Adam Woodworth
