Name & Age: Kadie Blaettler, 25
How did you hear about/get involved with the Museum? I had heard of the museum from my husband’s coworker initially when we first had our daughter. About a month or so after that, Angie Martin (who was a great coworker of mine at Babies R Us in the past) had mentioned that the museum was interested in expanding their staff and would love to have me on board.
What is your position with the Museum? I’m a Team Leader and only work on the weekends. This entails all happenings at the museum, such as being a greeter/working the desk, managing the birthday parties, making sure all the art bins are stocked and the toys are put away in an orderly fashion, answering phone calls, and ensuring to the best of our ability that all of our patrons have an enjoyable experience at the museum.
What do you like best about your staff position with the Museum? I truly enjoy being around all of my coworkers. We really do have a great chemistry of having fun while still taking care of business. Aside from that, personally I enjoy my position because being a mother of 2 it’s really great to mingle with other parents; from discussing not only the joys of parenthood, but also the trials and tribulations. It’s really refreshing and enjoyable to have a position to be able to be in touch with our guests in a professional, yet personal level.
What is the most rewarding part of working for the Museum? When the kids are wholeheartedly having fun and smiling and laughing, it’s an awesome feeling to be a part of that!
How has your staff position benefitted your life, career, etc.? It has honestly enriched my life of being a stay-at-home mother. Staying at home with my kids is still my primary focus on the weekdays, but being able to work on the weekends at such a wonderful place really helps me juggle the delicate balance of being involved in my kids’ lives daily while still being able to provide for my family. The museum is absolutely incredible when it comes to putting family first and you can’t say that about many places of employment. Without having this position, my life as being home with my kids during the week would surely be quite different and I’m forever grateful for the museum.
Events that you have worked: I’ve worked 2 Fall Fun Fests, Date Nights, private parties, Member’s nights, Halloween parties, Winter/Holiday parties, OLPD family night, among others I’m sure I’m forgetting.
Most memorable/favorite event: Professionally: The special needs Easter egg hunt. It was truly gratifying helping the most amazing visually impared boy the last time I worked one. His family was so great and overly appreciative of the event and it really touched my heart. Personally: I love working the events with Erin’s Creatures there!! I’m a huge animal lover and she always has such great animals and occasionally exotic ones. I just can’t get enough of them!
What Museum event or program are you most looking forward to? Fall Fun Fest is always a great time!
Fun Fact About You: I am freakishly good at those arcade claw machines! It’s like a superpower of mine, so if you have your eye on anything in a claw machine, let me know, I’ll help you out!
