Name & Age: Theresa Tarver, 43
How did you hear about/get involved with the Museum? I heard about the museum through a friend and an employee , at the time. I thought it sounded like a fun place to work.
What does your position with the Museum entail? My position with the museum is working the front desk. I am the first person the guests see, whether it be field trips, birthday parties, members or general guests, I am the one they come too. I help with any questions or concerns one may have. I am also the Store Manager. I order all the products for our gift shop, deal with different vendors on what I think would appeal to our customers.
What do you like best about your staff position with the Museum? What I like best about my position is meeting new people every day, big or small. I love children and love seeing their faces light up as they discover something new, or hearing them giggle as they play with their family at one of the exhibits.
What is the most rewarding part of working for the Museum? One of the most rewarding parts of my job is running the gift shop. I love being in charge of picking out items I think children will love and benefit from. The other rewarding part of my job is working for a non profit organization like this. I like to help, where I can, to better the museum and what we’re able to do for the children. Play based education is so important, and I love the fact that most children don’t even realize they are learning anything, they think it’s just playtime, but they are soaking up so much, and each visit they take away something else.
How has your staff position benefited your life, career, etc.? My position with the museum has benefitted my life by incorporating children into it, as I have none of my own, they are a joy to be around.
Events that you have worked: I have worked several events with the Museum. Some of them include Fall Fun Fest, members-only Halloween event, members-only Superbowl event, and the Children’s Museum Gala.
Most memorable/favorite event: I would have to say the Gala was my favorite. It gave me a chance to dress up and get out there and meet people outside of the museum setting. I got to meet more of the board members and community members. People that are interested in achieving the same goal…. the success of the museum.
What Museum program or event are you most looking forward to? I would have to go with the Fall Fun Fest. It’s one of our biggest events and has so many different things for the kids to do and it is held right outside of the museum.
Fun Fact About You: Let’s see…. a fun fact about me, It would have to be that there are 2 of me! I have an Identical twin sister who is 3 minutes older than I. We are actually called Mirror Twins because she is right handed and I am left. She is my best friend and we still enjoy tricking people who can’t tell us apart. Our first time tricking people was switching classes in kindergarten and we haven’t stopped yet!!!
